First up, the title track to 'Pros And Cons...' It hurts. Oh God, it hurts. The entire concept of the album incompetently squashed into a 5-minute lump of utterly incomprehensible slop. A blonde road-urchin makes out with some slut in a convertible, Langley Iddens' unfortunate look-alike falls off of an airplane wing, and innocent golf balls explode for no good reason. All interspersed with clips from 'Shane' (Roger Waters may know the reason...the Trashcan Man does not). The only bright spots for 'Pros and Cons' fetishists come with brief snippets of the backing films for "Dunroamin Duncarin Dunlivin," "Every Stranger's Eyes," and "Running Shoes." That and a quick laugh at Brandon De Wilde's goofy, wide-eyed look of dull surprise. (D-)

Aaah, "Every Stranger's Eyes." Now *here's* an improvement. The backing film interspersed with the occasional shot of Waters singing half in shadow. As usual, the backing film fits the song far better than any conceptual video would have. (A-)

What the hell were they thinking with the "Sexual Revolution" clip anyway? About 30 seconds worth of the "Dunroamin Duncarin Dunlivin" film is sliced up, arranged randomly, and repeated over and over as Rog yells into a microphone in his Mysterious Room of Face-Concealing Shadows. What the fuck, dude? (D-)

We then get to see the rehearsals for the 1984 tour, featuring part of "Money" and many incomplete chunks of the 'Pros And Cons' suite ... all with a lovely bar displaying a time code at the bottom. Clapton wails out some decent solos and we get a tantalizing, but way-too-brief glance at the video/lighting effects from the show, along with good close-ups. Interesting for a fan of the album, although the incompleteness and low video quality is irritating. Watch for Roger's coolest moment on tape ever at the beginning of the "Sexual Revolution" solo. You'll see what I mean. (C)

Next up is "Across the Universe." Oh dear lord. Roger covers the song in his inimitable vocal style over a happy 1980s disco synth beat, while being superimposed over a psychedelic space background. Andy Fairweather-Low assists on guitar and vocals, and looks like he'd rather be doing anything at all anywhere else. There's nothing that bad about the song, but the visuals hit a cheese factor of 9 on their own. The only way it would be sillier would be if Rog and Andy were running toward the camera on a treadmill, ooh-ing, aah-ing, and pointing at stars occasionally. Love the huge red headphone sets, guys. Really. (C)

'Radio KAOS' Rehearsals ... now *this* is interesting. Whoever filmed this not only gets a big toothy grin from Roger at the beginning, he also runs around onstage with the band. There is no audience, Jim Ladd, or Mr. Screen present. For some odd reason, the cameraman likes getting pictures of everyone's feet. Roger is at his shades-wearin' gooniest and Andy Fairweather-Low appears to be enjoying himself, grinning at Doreen Chanter, who seems to be annoyed by the camera but plays up to it anyway. Jay Stapley does his best guitar-hero poses and looks as smug as humanly possible, while Graham Broad and Katie Kissoon work hard, ignoring the cameraman (minus one withering look and snarl from Graham). Paul Carrack is apparently scared out of his wits by the camera (you would be too if you sucked as much as Paul Carrack). I find this bit interesting as hell, just because it's the only VOIO I've seen so far where the cameraman gets up onstage and runs around, annoying the band. We get all of "Sunset Strip" and "Radio Waves" here, a small bit of "Not Now John," and the outro of "Another Brick In The Wall, Part 1." (B+)

This is followed by a short interview with Jim Ladd talking about the album and bemoaning the death of free-form FM radio and doing his requisite ass kissing. Then comes the final rehearsal with an eloquent introduction by Ladd. Andy Fairweather-Low puts his Gilligan hat on for a run-through of "Money," "Sunset Strip," and "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1" / "The Happiest Days of Our Lives" / "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2." While competently filmed, there is none of the running around onstage here that there was in the previous rehearsal footage. There are longer versions of both rehearsals floating around out there, but I don't have access to them just yet, dammit. (B)

Starting with a nice helicopter-cam shot of the spotlight-swept stage and screen for the 1990 Wall in Berlin concert, you think the video for the 1990 re-recording of "Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)" might not be so bad. Things quickly degenerate, however, as the camera hovers over Roger's head while he sings this far-inferior version. Shots of Roger singing in front of a small wall are interspersed with footage of war and famine victims. These and the marching hammers are also "projected" on the wall next to Roger, along with the prophetic words "DISASTER" and "HELP." All with a little scroll bar at the bottom begging you to donate. Not too bad really, but not so great either. (B-)

"This is a song from the new album we've been working on ... it's about a monkey ... watching television." With an intro like that, can you blame the audience at the Seville Guitar Legends festival for going silent (especially when followed by "YOU can be the monkey, and WE'LL BE THE TELEVISION!!!!")? Roger mounts the unusual-looking stage to lead competent-enough renditions of "In the Flesh," "The Happiest Days Of Our Lives," "Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2" (with the usual jerky poses), "Monkey Television," "Brain Damage," "Eclipse," and "Comfortably Numb." "Monkey Television" (as it was listed as for some strange reason) is better known as "What God Wants, Part 1," and while this version is a little different from (and not as good as) the final version, it still has its charms. It's also the one song where Roger's vocals don't sound like shit on toast ... hilarity ensues when he misses his cue and says "God wants ..." and quickly turns his head in the middle of the chorus. Eyebrows from California to Spain are raised when a shot of the word "GOD" projected on the wall changes to a shot of Roger in his shades. Bruce Hornsby guests on "Comfortably Numb," and there's a perfectly good reason why it sucks, I swear. Story goes, Hornsby didn't know the song, so he picked up the album to learn the song. However, instead of picking up 'The Wall', he picked up 'The Wall : Live in Berlin' ... hence his lousy Van Morriosn-esque vocals here. Oh well. This fairly unremarkable performance gets a boost in the rating department from the early rendition of "What God Wants," but little else. (B-)

We jump into the 'Amused to Death' era with the clip for "Three Wishes." This pleasant-enough video assumes quite a bit of luster when compared to some of the earlier video turkeys Roger has put out. Rog sits lonely in a gas station/diner out in the desert somewhere writing a song, as creepy Peter Boyle (best known for 'Young Frankenstein' ... or as Ray's dad from 'Everybody Loves Raymond' for you young whippersnappers) minces about unnoticed, havingly recently been freed from his bottle as Roger reaches for a bottle of hooch. Roger looks up as a hot blonde (who was, up until late 2001 anyway, his wife Priscilla) pulls up for some gas. He stares out the window ... the hot blonde looks at the window seductively ... Peter Boyle decides to crawl back into a whiskey bottle somewhere ... then the hot blonde comes inside and starts smooching dear old Rog in slow-motion. Aieeee ! But wait ... apparently Roger imagined that last part, and continues to stare out the window as she drives off. Hey wait a minute ... SHE NEVER PAID FOR HER GAS !!!! (A)

All in all, if you're a Roger Waters fetishist, this collection is worth trading for ... however, in the end, you'll probably cringe more often than you'll cheer.
