Unfortunately, my review copy of this show consisted of only the second set and a not-so-hot Video CD encode. But on the plus side, the second set was the one I was most interested in. Shot from the upper level to the right of the stage (which is, for reasons unknown, where practically all 1984-87 VOIOs are shot from), we're treated to mostly zoom shots of the band onstage ... half of the time in relatively decent focus, the rest of the time somewhat blurry. Still easy to make out Rog and Clapton, tho.
Anyhoo, thankfully they zoom out enough to see the entire screen and stage just in time for the kickass segue to "Running Shoes" ... the camera is steady here for the duration of the song and most of the next, giving a decent (if sometimes indistinct) view of the backing films and effects. Then we go back in close to the stage for the rest of the song, with a nice long glimpse at Fritz. For those of you who don't know, Fritz was a big scary puppet who dangled in front of Mr. Sheet for part of "Arabs With Knives And West German Skies" ("MEIN NAME IST FRITZ !!!" emblazoned on the screen), turning back and forth a bit and begging the audience to stick around for a beer before Rog gives him the brush-off. The cheese factor of 5 comes entirely from Fritz, who looks like a melted half-man/half-sheep mutant here. Anyway, after he disappears we're treated to a nice edgy performance of "Sexual Revolution" with Clapton in top form. Unfortunately there are no wide shots of the great screen/lighting effects during "Go Fishing," but we zoom out in time to see the backing film for "Dunroamin Duncarin Dunlivin." We also get to see the screen for about half of the excellent backing film for "Every Stranger's Eyes," but then the yutz zooms in on the stage during the best part. After the album is done with, we get an adequate 'Brain Damage / Eclipse' encore, during which Roger says "there's someone in my head, but it's not me ... HA HAAAAA !" for some reason.
All in all, the video quality here isn't that much better than the 1985 Buffalo video (a review of which follows) ... however, if you're a 'Pros And Cons' fetishist like myself, it's far more desirable because of the sometimes-excellent shots of Mr. Sheet in action (as he was the *real* star of the second half of the show).
