VH1 Classic commemorated the release of 'Echoes - The Best Of Pink Floyd' and their inaugural showing of 'Legends' with this, a repeating 5-hour program block. Since most of it is covered elsewhere, I'll skip some stuff to avoid redundancy. Sadly, my cable provider fucked with me all weekend, and when I was finally able to tape, they cut me off with half an hour to go with a picture of the cover of 'Echoes' (the album playing in it's entirety) and a scrolling reminder to change channels and watch 'Legends.' Ah well. 'Delicate Sound of Thunder' kicked off the festivities and moved on to bigger and better things.

BODY PAINTING!!! MINISKIRTS!!!! PASTEL COLORS!!! CAMERAS ZOOMING IN AND OUT!!! FLASHING LIGHTS!!! FUNNY FAST-MOTION!!! WANKY SLOW-MOTION!!! EPILEPTIC STROBE-MOTION!!! JOHN LENNON IN GAY CLOTHES!!! SCANTILY CLAD WOMEN!!! What else could it be but SWINGING LONDON?!? 'London 66-67' consists mostly of just that, a sort of videomontage set to "Interstellar Overdrive" and the far-more-boring "Nick's Boogie." We occasionally cut back to the band to see a bored-looking Nick, Roger plunking his bass with all the concentration of a 9-year-old building a model airplane, and Syd hiding behind that big mop of hair. All in all, sort of ponderous to sit through, but if you're a fan of Syd's Floyd this is as good as it's likely to ever get in terms of clean film.

A 15-minute documentary follows, concerning the 1988 Palace of Versailles concert, and some tired babble about the Floyd breakup. We get the requisite 'Look the Week' snippets and another look at the guy in the groovin' glasses and suit jerking arrythmically to "Interstellar Overdrive." Scott Page puts in a brief, goony appearance, Gilmour gives an interview in which he looks nearly bored to tears, and a concertgoer who looks remarkably like Santa Claus is briefly interviewed. With the exception of some live snippets of 'Yet Another Movie' and 'Learning to Fly', nothing new here...move along.

After this comes is an abbreviated 15-minute version of 'Behind the Wall' (also available on the official PF site) ... no remarkable differences except for the fucked-up aspect ratio and Gilmour's "fucking great wall" sentence going un-bleeped.

The other videos shown are remarked upon elsewhere. It does seem, however, that "Keep Talking" is a bit more extended than the final product on 'Pulse' (sourced from the original PPV tapes I suppose). Why they decided to show 'Delicate Sound ...' clips after showing the damn thing in its entirety, I dunno. All in all, these broadcasts are your best bet for clean sources of the promo stuff, albeit with an annoying logo in the corner.
