Overall Picture / Sound Quality A-/A-

NOTE -- this tape is *not* to be confused with original 'Dark Side' collection (discussed above) that was packaged in the transparent clamshell case. This edition (apparently re-edited two years later) features modified cover art, and is packaged in a standard VHS tape slipcase. Said new cover is a red-tinted photo from 1975 (I believe), showing the band playing under their spinning mirror disc with the old 'Dark Side' cover art (the windswept, soloing David Gilmour) visible as a "background" image.

The contents of this new 'Dark Side' make this volume the most useless of the whole "trilogy," if you will -nearly two-thirds of the footage shown on this tape is available on the last two titles we reviewed. Worse, I wouldn't be surprised if this tape is a direct dupe of the original version as the repeated footage we see here is in noticeably degraded audio and video quality. Needless to say, this compilation isn't exactly deserving of a positive rating.

The *only* footage shown here that I have not yet covered elsewhere is related to our old friend, Roger Waters. Dear Rog first appears in a one-minute from an unknown source where we find him in a theatre or screening room or some kind and talking about messing with bass guitars and Syd Barrett's tendency to seize up and stare at the camera on the American TV shows the band appearances on in 1967. From there, it's off to his appearance on a TV interview show hosted by Jim Ladd (dating from 1984 or 85, I think), which is so badly degraded in quality that the voices are rendered nearly unlistenable by distortion while the picture appears to be in black and white (instead of color as it was originally). Owch.

As for the rest of 'The Dark Side - Interviews' (followed where to read up about these snippets in this survey) ...

* 1994 Omnibus interview footage ("The Dark Side")

* David Gilmour 1988 ("The Dark Side")

* "Santa Claus" man interview ("The Dark Side")

* 'American Bandstand' introductions ("The Dark Side")

* A few MTV interview segments from 1988 ("The Dead Walk!" - 'Over The Wall')

* A fair amount of footage ripped from the MTV 1989 'Rockumentary' episode (see "The Dead Walk!" - 'MTV Rockumentary - Pink Floyd')

* Nearly every single band interview segment with Pip Dann snipped from MTV Europe's 1994 tour special ("The Greatest Show On Earth" - 'Pink Floyd In Europe')

So there you have it, and don't say you weren't warned (especially if you own the first two videos in this series).
