Overall Picture / Sound Quality A/A-

Beginning with that perennial favorite, the 'Look of the Week' appearance (complete with the 'Pow R Toc H' intro and Hans Keller in full-tilt prissy-bitch mode), we launch into some oh-so-familiar territory. What's different now, however, is that most of the Video transfers come from the library of RonToon at Harvested (which is where most of the material on the 'Anthology' vids are sourced from), which means this is the best quality ever seen for much of this material. "Arnold Layne" does look a little bleached though, looking a bit better on the 'Mr. Screen' anthology. We get the fruity clip from Pathe's 'The Scarecrow' film followed by Syd in Creepy Schizophrenic Mode on 'American Bandstand.' Fashion Crimes ? Do you even need to ask ?

The big drawing point, however, is the recently-unearthed "Jugband Blues" promo...the band (including Syd being his usual creepy afro-ed self) performing on a "blank" stage, with flashing colored lights behind them. I'm unsure where the sound mix comes from, as the verses sound like the studio album but the marching band segment sounds entirely different. Which reminds me, this is probably the only place you'll ever see Rog toot on a tuba to accompany Rick's trombone. The video quality drops off a bit (somewhat scratchy and spotty film stock being the culprit), but merits a B+/A-. Regardless, this is quite a find (as boring as it may end up on repeated viewings). Definitely worth a download or trade, despite the short running time.
