First things first: this is the only live VoIO I'm aware of with the 1987 version of "Echoes," which is featured in its entirety here. Okay, with that out of the way ... "Echoes" is horribly boring to watch here (very little going on onstage aside from some laser effects that are invisible here anyway). The camera is at a fairly distant position on the field, and there are no close-ups to speak of, so the stage is the star of this show (which is kind of unfortunate, given that almost none of the lasers show up at all). On the other hand, it does offer a nice view of Mr. Screen for the backing films (and no, Dave can't stay properly synched with "Welcome to the Machine" this time around either).
The most striking thing about this VoIO is how NASTY the crowd is here. At several points Dave asks them to "move back a fewwww STEPS" because "people are getting crushed down in front." At a couple of points, some hapless bastard boosts his girlfriend onto his shoulders, leading some hooligans near the taper to scream "PUT THE BITCH DOWN!! PUT THAT FUCKING BITCH DOWN, I DON'T WANNA SEE HER FAT ASS!!!" (in a final touch that Mr. Roger Waters would no doubt find hilariously appropriate, these same people enthusiastically shake the Hammer salute during "Run Like Hell")
What else? Oh yeah, when the Floyd are sneaking back onstage under cover of darkness, some doofus on a lighting rig flips a very bright spotlight on the band, prompting an annoyed "If that gentleman who is wide awake up there would just turn his light off, we'll get on with it" from Gilmour.
It's not all doom and gloom however; the unusual set list (which includes everything played on the 1987-1989 tour except "One Slip" and "The Great Gig in the Sky") makes it well worth a trade or purchase (for a reasonable price, of course), despite the never-changing far-off perspective.
